Farm theme in church service

Former journalist Duncan Brown is now farming on a property west of Brisbane. He was one of the speakers at the dairy week church service.

The non-denominational church service held as part of International Dairy Week had a farming theme.

Held on the sand arena of the Blackmore-Leslie complex, Pastor Ken Faze conducted an interview with Queensland farmer and former Weekly Times livestock editor Duncan Brown.

Duncan described growing up on a family dairy farm, the hardships of farming in the 1970s, the disappointment of having to leave the farm and the challenges of hard times within the family.

He described the awakening of faith in God and the realisation that grounding his identity, simply in what he did, was unsustainable.

Ken Faze, in his sermon, reflected on Duncan’s challenges and remarked on God’s grace and mercy.

“Regret is an opportunity for grace,” Ken said.

About 80 people attended the church service, organised by dairy breeder and judge John Gardiner, which was the first event on the program on Sunday, January 19.
