There was a wave of orange around Victoria Park Lake on Sunday, December 11, as Soroptimist International of Shepparton walked in unity to call for an end to violence against women.

Organiser Jill Pinner said between 30 and 40 walkers turned out, with many wearing orange in support of the cause.

“There was lots of tooting in support from the traffic going past, because we had the big banner,” she said.

“It takes a few people to get together to make a movement that will make a movement — we can only make it happen if there’s a whole lot of us together.

“It’s a cause we need to do a lot more about.”

Unity: The group wore orange as a symbol of a brighter future, free from violence against women and girls.

Shepparton’s branch of Soroptimist International raises money to support local women, including through events already on the calendar for 2023, Valentine’s Day and International Women’s Day.
