Shepp Park bowls club's fundraising effort means ‘a lot’ to charity

Shepparton Park Bowls Club's St Patrick's Day charity fundraiser has raised over $7100 for a Shepparton charity.

The annual event, which was last year postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions, normally raised about $5000 according to organiser Ron Holland.

He said there was a "full house" of players for the 160-person mixed doubles tournament, but attendees splashed more cash than normal on raffle tickets and donations.

Mr Holland said 600 tickets were sold, double the amount in 2019, and he said "every cent" would go towards People Supporting People.

People Supporting People founder Azem Elmaz said the fundraising effort meant so much.

“It means a lot, no, it's more than a lot,” Mr Elmaz said.

“Registration and insurance costs us thousands of dollars a year.

“We're so grateful to have such a beautiful community which supports us."

He said he was "speechless" when he was told how much had been raised for People Supporting People and thanked the Shepparton Park Bowls Club and everyone who attended.
