On Monday, February 6 Lifestyle Shepparton handed over a cheque to the Prostate Cancer Foundation from its shave day fundraising event from December last year.

The event involved a breakfast with a group of men and women shaving their head and/or facial hair to raise funds for cancer patients within the region.
Every year members of Lifestyle in over 20 different communities raise funds for the cause, and Lifestyle matches all funds raised in each community.
The initiative was created after a Lifestyle director died from cancer.
This year Lifestyle Shepparton’s full donation was more than $26,000, bringing the total funds raised since the first annual shave day to $82,000.
Resident Gavan Pritchett said that when the initiative started there was nothing happening locally for men’s health and specifically prostate cancer victims.
“All the money goes straight back here, and helps them (the Prostate Cancer Foundation) support men suffering from prostate cancer,” he said.
Prostate Cancer Foundation specialist nurse Sonia Strachan said the money was invaluable to local men living with prostate cancer, helping them with out-of-pocket expenses and general support through the treatment process.
“They raise an incredible amount. It’s a group of people having a bit of fun but also raising awareness for men’s health issues,” she said.
“It’s all about making a connection and helping men going through such a tough thing, and this is the most generous community one could have.”
