This September saw a mean daytime temperature of 19.9°C, a notable surge from the average of 18.3°C for the month recorded over the past 26 years.
However, it wasn’t hot enough to break records, as the peak temperature of the month reached 26.9°C on September 19, falling significantly short of the hottest record of 34.1°C set on September 23, 2017.
On a brighter note, September’s chilliest day was a tad warmer than usual, registering a minimum of 14.2°C on September 9, compared to the bone-chilling low of 8.1°C on September 8, 2006.
Night-time temperatures followed a similar pattern, with this September’s mean temperature at 5.5°C.
Yet, this year’s hottest night for the month of 12.4°C on September 18, was a far cry from the hottest September night in the past 26 years, where the mercury reached 18.1°C in 2019.
The lowest night-time temperature of 0.4°C on September 6 was warmer than the coldest temperature, an icy -2.2°C, on September 28, 2003.
September brought with it a dry spell, as the skies only gave up a mere 15.6mm of rain for the month, a drastic drop from the historical mean of 38mm.
The highest daily downpour was observed on September 8, with 9.6mm of rain.
However, the rainy days were few and far between, with precipitation gracing the town only on six days compared to the monthly average of 10 rainy days.
