The arts and craft classes have made a comeback over the past few months, and have become a fast favourite for the residents.
Wellness and lifestyle officers Julie Broadbent and Shirley Nicker host the weekly classes, guiding and assisting the residents through their creations.
“We run (these classes) every Friday morning, and they really love it,” Julie said.
“I’m really proud of what they’ve done.”
The group members have been experimenting with their art, using various different techniques and styles to create their own unique works of art.
They have worked with abstract art, buttons, broken jewellery, craft items and even household items such as salt.
A favourite was button art, where the ladies created a butterfly using buttons.
Dawn Dyson loves to create decorative art, and is enjoying experimenting in the classes.
“The girls (Julie and Shirley) organise it all, and then we get ideas, like everyone was creating a butterfly, but look how different they are,” she said.
“We’re quite motivated once we get in here,” Dawn said.
Jennifer Biddell attends each week, as she likes how it keeps her motivated to try new things.
“The girls, they help us. Like they really help me because I’m colour-blind, I’m also legally blind, but they help me,” she said.
Julie and Shirley are especially proud of what the group has been working on, loving how the ladies continue to experiment with different materials and try new techniques.
“We’re going to enter some into the Shepparton Show this year,” Shirley said.
“Each year we try, last year, with knitting and crocheting, we’ve gotten a couple of good places.
“Looking at the artwork, these girls have done an amazing job on them. Fingers crossed!”
To help the Shepparton Villages residents to continue their art classes, they are seeking donations of any buttons or broken jewellery.
Julie and Shirley said you could drop off any donations at Maculata Place at Shepparton Villages for the lifestyle and wellness team.
Maculata Place is at 124 Maculata Dve, Shepparton.
