The author, psychologist, and freelance writer will be visiting Cobram, Mooroopna, and Avenel libraries to discuss her work.
The Mix-up follows two families whose lives take an unexpected turn when a routine school DNA test reveals that their teenage children were accidentally switched at birth. Shona and Nathan James raised their son Zac, while Kelsey and Raf Maccioni welcomed their daughter Ammy after years of IVF treatments.
Fourteen years later, the unexpected discovery forces both families — and the teenagers themselves — to confront difficult questions about their past and future.
Kylie, who holds a PhD in neuropsychology, has long explored themes of assisted reproduction in her writing.
Having undergone IVF herself and been an egg donor twice, she has a personal and professional interest in the psychological implications of fertility treatments.
Her latest book examines how such a discovery might play out when the children involved are old enough to form their own views and make their own choices.
Kylie is the author of six previous novels published in Australia and internationally. She has also co-edited and co-authored two non-fiction books, with her essays and articles appearing in The Age, Sydney Morning Herald, Griffith Review, Meanjin and Reader’s Digest, among others.
