Kate Solly
Mooroopna Library — Wednesday, March 8 at 10.30am.
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
Author Kate Solly will be visiting Goulburn Valley Libraries to share her debut book, Tuesday Evenings with the Copeton Craft Resistance, a story of friendship in an imperfect world.
Inspired by real community movements such as ‘Believe in Bendigo’, which began in response to protests around the building of a mosque in Bendigo in 2015, this feel-good story takes the high road to celebrate the joys of unexpected friendships and the power of community — even in the face of bigotry.
Kate is a busy mother-of-six: most of her time is spent finding lost shoes and investigating what’s making the car smell bad. Kate frequently escapes to writing, which has resulted in her debut novel. She has also penned many articles, columns and reviews for various publications. When not writing, she enjoys starting crochet projects and never finishing them.
If you would like to join Kate at Euroa Library or Mooroopna Library on Wednesday, March 8, please contact Goulburn Valley Libraries on 1300 374 765 or email mooroopna@gvlibraries.com.au. Kate will also be visiting Euroa Library at 2.30pm on March 8 – please email euroa@gvlibraries.com.au. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
Bill ‘Swampy’ Marsh
Swampy Marsh visits the Goulburn Valley with a yarn or two.
One of Australia’s favourite storytellers is coming to the Goulburn Valley. Author Bill ‘Swampy’ Marsh will share yarns from his many books and travels, visiting Mooroopna Library, March 29, at 7pm. Bill has an extensive list of books to his name. Some focus on specific topics, ranging from volunteer fire fighters and outback nurses, to railway adventures and bush funerals. Great Australian Outback Yarns captures the funniest tales from Swampy’s many books in one volume. The colourful characters in these pages are full of generosity, humour and the larrikin Aussie spirit.
Bill is an award-winning writer and performer of stories, songs and plays. He spent most of his youth in rural south-western NSW and now lives in Adelaide. During his visit he will not only share some of his favourite yarns, he is bringing his guitar along too, so be prepared to be entertained.
If you like a good old-fashioned Aussie yarn, join Bill at Avenel Library, Mooroopna Library or Yarrawonga Library. Contact Goulburn Valley Libraries on 1300 374 765, or email mooroopna@gvlibraries.com.au or programs@gvlibraries.com.au. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event for $20, cash sales only.

This is the incredible story of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson. These brilliant African-American women worked at NASA during the 1950s and ’60s, and were the brains behind the launch into orbit of astronaut John Glenn, a stunning achievement that turned around the Space Race. The visionary trio crossed gender and racial lines, and inspired generations to come.

Living with a disability
Many people will have a disability at some stage in their lives; for some, their disability is only for a short time, but others may be affected for a lifetime. As many as one in six people worldwide have a disability. The 2010 Census recorded 6.8 million Australians reported a disability or long-term health condition, and 290,000 were children. The effects of a disability are not just on physical health but also on mental health, education, employment and social engagement. And these effects are felt by families, friends and colleagues. So what is it really like to live with a disability? What barriers are faced every day, how do you manage?
Join us to hear stories read by our ‘books’ about their disability and learn how they continue to be active members of their community and manage their health, career, home and family, and social lives.
