The Salvos have launched their annual Christmas Appeal in the Goulburn and Murray region, to help support those in the community who are struggling this festive season.
As the cost-of-living crisis continues, more Australians are seeking assistance from the Salvos, making this year’s appeal crucial as the Christian group aims to raise $27 million nationally.
Salvation Army external communications manager Major Warren Elliot said the festive season was the Salvos’ busiest time of the year, with many people expected to seek assistance.
“For many, celebrating Christmas might seem out of reach due to the rising cost of living, with some on the brink of homelessness and others fighting to pay the bills,” he said.
“The Salvation Army want to be there to support those in need this Christmas and give people the Christmas they deserve.
“Whether it is practical support like food or presents, or if you are feeling down or lonely this Christmas, please reach out to us at the Salvos.”
There are many ways you can support the community through the Salvos this Christmas, including volunteering, donating gifts and food, or by donating money to the Christmas Appeal.
The Salvos also host many community celebrations during the festive season.
“The Salvos are looking to give a new beginning to those doing it tough in our community this Christmas, but we can’t do that without the generosity and support of others,” Mr Elliot said.
“It is now such an important time to come together as the Goulburn and Murray community and lend a hand to those in need of support.”
During last year’s appeal, the Salvos received over 330,000 gifts and toys for families, provided over 184,000 meals to those experiencing homelessness and provided more than 92,000 bed nights for families in need of accommodation nationally.
