The department runs comprehensive mowing and cleaning programs to ensure public safety, environmental health and community wellbeing.
High-use parks get a weekly mow, while other parks are maintained based on how often they’re used. The team also looks after a vast network of roadsides and open spaces, slashing over 764km of roadside grass on a 16-week cycle.
Workers do extra maintenance at key town entry points and intersections to keep visibility clear for drivers.
“Fire prevention, road safety and biodiversity are major priorities,” council director infrastructure Gary Randhawa said.
“Our team’s work in slashing and maintaining roadsides is critical to ensuring safe, accessible roads and open spaces that benefit the whole community.”
The department also regularly cleans public amenities, barbecues, picnic areas and other infrastructure, and removes graffiti. High-traffic facilities get serviced often, while other spots are attended to as needed.
“Our Parks, Sport and Recreation team’s commitment to cleanliness and maintenance keeps our public spaces inviting and well cared for,” Mr Randhawa said.
“These efforts make a significant impact on the quality of life for our residents and visitors.”
