The Great Global Greyhound Walk was held on Sunday throughout the world, including a walk at Victoria Park Lake in Shepparton.
The walk attracted 42 dogs overall — 38 of which were sighthounds.
Greyhounds, whippets and iggys joined with a few other dogs, and their owners, for the lap around the lake.
Shepparton walk organiser Sophie Patane was pleased with the turnout at this year’s walk, which was far bigger than she had hoped for.
“I’m ecstatic,” she said.
“I was expecting 10 — and more people just kept coming.
“It was really great to see a big greyhound community here.”
Ms Patane said some people who did not own greyhounds also joined the walk with other breeds of dogs.
She said the main reason for the walk was to promote people taking on greyhounds as pets, and she felt Sunday’s event achieved that.
Throughout the world, 10,620 sighthounds took part in the Great Global Greyhound Walk, in 29 different countries.
While the global walk is an annual event, Ms Patane and many others who took part on Sunday are part of a group of greyhound owners who meet regularly in Shepparton for walks.
The walks are organised monthly and give the dog owners a chance to gather regularly and keep their greyhound community together.
Any greyhound owners interested in joining the group can see what is happening and get in touch via the Shepparton Greyhound/Sighthound Facebook page.
