In the tradition of the community showbags, once offered by service clubs at the Shepparton Agricultural Show, organisers have drawn on donated goods to create value for buyers and to raise money for community organisations.
Shepparton Heritage Centre treasurer Kristy Rudd said the organisation’s participation in last year’s show was highly successful and popular with all ages.
“A local community showbag, as an alternative to the standard commercial showbags, promotes Shepparton’s local organisations, businesses, industries and provides value for money.
“Last year, we were situated in the McIntosh Centre, where members interacted with a range of interested visitors, and we will be back there again this year.
“Our successful free scavenger hunt from last year will once again be a feature. Participants use the clues collected to ‘open the lock’ on an archive box filled with memorabilia, with everyone receiving a prize, engaging both adults and children. The Victorian Showman’s Guild has donated a bike and helmet as the major prize.”
The local community showbag will be offered at this year’s show on Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14.
This fundraising effort will support the volunteer work at Shepparton Heritage Centre Museum and History Hub, which has the motto: ‘Preserving the past to inform the future’.
A large number of volunteers helped pack the showbags.
