And a crowd of up to 3000 will be there to see it happen.
The round eight fixture between Moama and Deniliquin Rams in Murray Football Netball League has been moved from May 29 to open the season on Saturday, March 27.
The event, which was an initiative of the two clubs involved, will include all netball and football grades and culminate with a twilight senior football clash at Moama Recreation Reserve.
League general manager Dale Norman praised the clubs and spoke of his excitement for the season starting.
“We're really excited for the season to get under way,” Norman said.
“The two clubs have put the work in and organised the event and we hope to see a massive crowd come through the gates as we finally get local football and netball back under way.”
Moama president Matt Lake said it was a great opportunity for the community.
“It's been a long year without football and netball,” Lake said.
“Sport is a massive part of our community and we've missed having it around, so getting the season under way with a crowd of 3000 is really exciting for both clubs.
“From Moama's perspective, it's a great opportunity not only to start the recovery for our club, but also to christen our new facilities and give them a proper opening for our club.
“It's been a huge effort and we want to thank the league, Luke Keogh and the team at Murray River Council, and Deni for getting on board and making it possible.
Rams president Clint Free said the club was itching to go.
“It’s been a tough year for everyone with the season being called off,” Free said.
“So for all our teams to get the opportunity to just play is a great outcome. But to get to do it in front of a crowd is a something special.
“We have a great relationship — and quite a good rivalry — with Moama, so to get to open the season against them at their new facilities with a big crowd, it doesn’t get much better.”
Free said the opening of the season was far bigger than just some football and netball games after the past 12 months.
“It goes beyond just football and netball, it’s an opportunity for our whole community to come together after a tough year and enjoy an event,” he said.
“Hopefully people can get down, put some money through the canteen or the bar, help out the football and netball community and embrace the fact we are back from a really tough year.”
