Despite some areas greening up, brigade captain Adrian Hilder said the majority of grass is still relatively dry.
“Even though we’ve had that rain, it’s doing nothing for that grass that has already cured,” he said.
“With fire restrictions in force, there is still the danger of grassfires.
“The threat is very real, just because we get a little rain, it doesn’t help the cured grass.”
● On Friday morning, the brigade was called to a shed fire at Cobram Willows Caravan Park.
“On arrival a shed was fully involved, including gas bottles inside,” Mr Hilder said.
“We issued a smoke advice for surrounding communities and small explosions were heard around town.”
A tractor, car and caravan were burnt in the blaze, which took about 40 minutes to bring under control.
Ten vehicles, including the Fire Rescue Victoria hazmat unit and NSW Fire and Rescue attended.
“The fire was contained to the machinery shed with no other buildings impacted,” Mr Hilder said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is being treated as not suspicious.
