But it can also be an opportunity to revisit plans and consider alternative pathways.
Yes, there may have been a certain score needed for an entry level position in the course of your dreams — but life is not over and a change of direction can be a positive thing.
Goulburn Murray Local Learning & Employment Network works to develop programs and initiatives that connect industry, education and training providers to ensure young people can have the best chance at a successful transition into education, training and/or employment.
GMLLEN executive officer Bec Costa-Lowe said work opportunities within the community were endless.
“There is a breadth of opportunities in our local region for young people regardless of their ATAR score,” she said.
“Our local industries are screaming out for staff and are getting creative in their approach to engage their future workforce.”
Ms Costa-Lowe said an internship and cadetship holds opportunity for school leavers to expand their preferences and gain some hands-on experience.
“These are great stepping stones for young people that either miss their ATAR score or want a gap year before engaging in further studies.”
She said GMLLEN supported local education institutions that work collaboratively to assist students and guide them on a pathway that will support their career aspirations.
GMLLEN produces a place-based Beyond School book annually to offer ideas and solutions for students making their next steps.
The book is distributed to schools and youth organisations and can be found via www.gmllen.com.au/resource/beyond-schools-ebook/
