Lynch has played just eight games across the past two years, which were ruined by foot and hamstring injuries.
The 32-year-old spearhead missed Richmond's practice match against Collingwood at Ikon Park on Wednesday through concussion but has declared himself fit to face Carlton in round one, on March 13.
"Feeling good," Lynch told Fox Footy.
"I'm just sort of building back up from it. I'll be fine for round one.
"I've had a great pre-season so far.
"The concussion just slowed me down for a couple of weeks but building back up now but should be sweet for round one and looking forward to it."
After Dustin Martin retired and Shai Bolton, Daniel Rioli and Liam Baker departed during the off-season, the Tigers, last year's wooden spooners, are missing experience across all lines, but especially in attack.
In Wednesday night's 21.6 (132) to 6.13 (49) loss to Collingwood, only 22-year-old Jacob Bauer (two goals) kicked multiple majors, while Adem Yze tested out youngsters Harry Armstrong, Liam Fawcett and Tom Sims in attack.
Dual premiership forward Lynch has kicked 462 goals in 220 games and will provide crucial leadership and structure.
"He's a great leader around the club, and we know about his AFL ability," Newman said.
"He provides a really strong contest for us, but more importantly, he provides some experience in our front end.
"We're really young in our front end at the moment, and I think the great thing with Tom is he'll be able to come in and hit back straight away but also provide some real strong guidance for our young boys."
The Tigers remain hopeful prized No.1 pick Sam Lalor (fractured jaw, concussion) will be available for round one.
"He'll obviously go through all the protocols that he needs, and we'll give him the best chance," Newman said.
"But I'm sure the docs and the medicos are giving him every chance."
Newman was excited by what young midfielder Sam Banks (21 disposals) and fellow on-baller Jack Ross (24) showed, while also praising young defender Luke Trainor and talented key forward Armstrong.
