The Magpies have named Ginnivan in their starting 22 for Saturday's match against Brisbane at the MCG and also recalled Billy Frampton to replace injured forward Dan McStay.
The build-up to Saturday will intensify, with Brisbane having a light run at the MCG before the grand final parade on Friday morning outside the Melbourne CBD.
Ginnivan was the sub for the qualifying and preliminary finals, but midfielder Patrick Lipinski will have that role for the grand final.
"Probably over the last period of time they haven't scored as much as they would like and Ginnivan is a goalkicker," Riewoldt said on FoxFooty's AFL360.
"He is that sort of X-factor, he could bob up and kick three or four.
"If he gets going, just the Collingwood army ... he could really ignite them."
Riewoldt, newly retired and a key member of Richmond's three premierships from 2017-20, wants Frampton to play on star Lions defender Harris Andrews and blunt the two-time All Australian's impact.
"I'd play Frampton on Harris Andrews and the way I'd do it is ... we know (Andrews) likes to come across and impact as many contests as possible," Riewoldt said.
"I'd keep trying to drag him to the 'skinny' side of the ground, right near the boundary, and just play cat and mouse all day with him.
"You either have to take him really high, where he can't see the whole defence, or you take him really skinny where he can't rotate off to help other defenders.
"Now Harris isn't just going to let you constantly do that, but you have to play cat and mouse, keep him thinking, make him accountable."
Riewoldt added it is a big game for Brisbane key forwards Joe Daniher and Eric Hipwood.
He pointed to Carlton's Coleman Medallist Charlie Curnow, who only managed three goals in three finals for an underwhelming end to his outstanding season.
"We only have to rewind back six or seven days to see a big forward who had a fantastic year, in Charlie Curnow, has a poor final and all of a sudden the jungle drums start beating about being a finals player," Riewoldt said.
"We know that Hipwood especially has been a whipping boy for a lot of people in the media and possibly for Lions fans as well.
"It's a big stage and they need him to play well, as they do with Daniher."
The last time Collingwood were in a grand final five years ago, West Coast's Luke Shuey was Norm Smith Medallist as best afield in the Eagles' epic five-point win
There has been plenty of talk about the Lions' MCG record, but Shuey said they have nothing to fear.
"I wouldn't be fussed about addressing the Collingwood crowd - if you kick the first four goals, they're probably going to be pretty quiet," he said.
"That's a tough ask to do. They're the best team in the competition for a reason this year, but I think Brisbane should be looking at their track record this season and go in this (Saturday) with so much confidence about the way they play.
"It just stands up against pretty much anyone. They don't win every game they play, but they're always in it."
