One of the Brownlow Medal contenders, Petracca's move forward has coincided with the Demons dramatically boosting their attacking output.
After going seven weeks when they failed to score above 80, Melbourne have shot back into premiership contention by averaging almost 109 points a game during the last month.
Melbourne will welcome back star midfielder Clayton Oliver for Saturday night's clash with in-form Carlton at the MCG.
But that inclusion has been offset by losing key tall Harrison Petty, who had been a revelation after swinging forward in recent weeks, for the rest of the season.
"We have worked really hard at training to make sure we are finishing off our work and improving our inside-50 connection," Petracca told AAP.
I'm really enjoying playing up forward, it's a fun position.
"Whether it's forward or in the midfield, I'm happy playing whatever role the team needs of me.
"I definitely think we're starting to peak at the right time. There's a sense of building momentum and I'm excited to see how far we can take it come finals."
An avid chef, Petracca has teamed up with Heinz in a nationwide cooking contest to find the best home cooks to share their favourite family recipes.
"Growing up in an Italian family, I was always surrounded by food and a love of cooking," he said.
"Being an athlete means that I also understand the importance of fuelling my body with the right foods."
