Sydney offered some minor resistance in the second quarter but the Cats responded after half-time, booting six unanswered third-quarter goals to turn the game into a thrashing.
* Key stat: Geelong's 35-point lead at the first change was the greatest quarter-time lead in a grand final since the Cats trailed the Hawks by 40 in the 1989 decider.
* Key moment: Hawkins missed his first set shot for the opening point but put Geelong on their merry way in the opening quarter. Nine minutes in, the big Cat flung Tom Hickey out of his way, took possession in the ruck and snapped the opening goal over his head. Five minutes later, he pulled off the exact same move.
* Star player: If there is one thing about Geelong this season, it is how even they have been across the board. Grand final day was no exception. Hawkins starred early, with three goals to set up the win; Joel Selwood flew out of the blocks with 12 disposals; while Mark Blicavs, Sam De Koning and Tyson Stengle were all influential. But there was no going past Isaac Smith for the Norm Smith Medal. The former Hawk claimed his fourth flag and some extra silverware with 32 disposals and three goals.

The Swans backed Sam Reid in despite his lingering adductor issue but he looked limited throughout and was well beaten by Sam De Koning. Reid went into the rooms just before half-time but started the second half on the bench. Geelong's Cam Guthrie (shoulder) was substituted off for Brandan Parfitt in the fourth quarter.
