Geelong captain Joel Selwood was his side's oldest player on the night at 34 years and 113 days.
* The stat, part two: Selwood tied Hawthorn legend Michael Tuck's AFL/VFL record of playing in 39 finals matches - and will surpass that long-standing mark in next week's season decider - while fellow 34-year-old Tom Hawkins became the 22nd player in league history to reach 50 goals in finals.
* Injuries: Geelong youngster Holmes has been so important to his side this season but suffered a hamstring injury during the third quarter. It was a picture of heartbreak as the 20-year-old lay with his face buried in the turf on the sidelines, having hobbled off with his side 45 points clear and cruising to victory. But coach Chris Scott said the Cats' medical staff were optimistic Holmes would play in the grand final. A few minutes earlier, Brisbane lost dangerous forward Cam Rayner to a rolled ankle in a nasty landing.
* What's next? Geelong are into a second grand final in three years, to be played at the MCG next week, as they chase their first premiership since 2011. The Cats will have an extra day of rest over their opponents as they sit back to watch Sydney and Collingwood slug it out in Saturday's preliminary final. Brisbane will lick their wounds after a fourth straight finals series without reaching a grand final.
