In 2024, Russia-born Avanesyan changed allegiances to Armenia, the birthplace of her parents, making her the highest-ranked woman to ever represent the country.
The 22-year-old world No.44 toppled Chinese qualifier Xiyu Wang 6-3 7-5 in the first round in Hobart on Monday.
Avanesyan also reached the final 16 at the Brisbane International last week, beating Badosa in three sets en route.
She beat several top-10 players in 2024, including eighth seed Maria Sakkari at the Australian Open, and cracked the top 50 for the first time.
Avanesyan, the sixth seed in Hobart, will meet qualifier Greet Minnen for a place in the quarter-finals after she upset world No.56 Viktoriya Tomova 7-5 6-3.

The Hobart field is headlined by world No.33 Dayana Yastremska, while Australia's Daria Saville and youngster Maya Joint have been granted wildcards.
Saville faces a tough opening match on Tuesday against third seed and world No.36 Amanda Anisimova, with the winner to face qualifier Anna Bondar.
The 97-ranked Hungarian upset Egypt's world No.65 Maya Sherif 7-5 6-4.
"I'm really happy about that win, it was tough conditions. It was really windy compared to yesterday ... so I needed to adjust," Bondar said.
In other round-one action, seventh seed Rebecca Sramkova was knocked out by lower-ranked American McCartney Kessler 6-3 7-5.
Kessler will meet Maria Lourdes Carle after the Argentinian qualifier upset Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-3 3-6 6-0.
