The baby-faced goalkeeping prodigy made his name at, then left Victory 15 years ago, before Melbourne Heart even entered the competition.
It means Saturday's clash with the team now known as Melbourne City at AAMI Park will be the 36-year-old's maiden derby bow.
"I haven't played in a derby, and this will be my first one. So I'm very excited," Langerak said on Friday.
"I've obviously been watching over all the years and seen all the games.
"It's going to be a fiery game like it always has been.
"They're very exciting. They're the games you want to play in as a player.
"It's something I'm looking forward to, and I'm sure all our supporters are looking forward to the match and come tomorrow night, I'm sure there's going to be fireworks."
While Jack Duncan was impressive early in the season, Victory have won three out of four games since Langerak took over in January.
"The only thing I care about is the wins, and we've been on a good little run lately," he said.
"I feel like I've been playing really well."
Langerak retired from internationals during the COVID-19 pandemic but briefly came out of retirement in 2022 ahead of the World Cup.
He was then controversially left out of Graham Arnold's squad and subsequently retired from international football altogether.
But his excellent form hasn't got Langerak reconsidering his retirement from the Socceroos, now led by Tony Popovic.
"No, I'm retired," he said.
"I'm happy to be a Socceroos supporter. I'm happy to be watching the boys, and having my fingers crossed every match for the right results.
"And I'm sure they're going to qualify and qualify comfortably, and I'm really looking forward to watching them.
"No, I think it was the right time for me to call time, and it's also great to watch the next generation of keepers come through."
Coach Arthur Diles has relished Langerak's leadership, but he's putting the heat on his star-studded attack to step up on Saturday night.
"I hope they're more than hungry. I hope they're starving, to be fair, because we need more goals, that's for sure," Diles said.
Third-placed Victory are just a point ahead of fourth-placed City ahead of a game in scorching conditions.
"It'll be hot - even if the weather wasn't, it'll be hot tomorrow, that's for sure," Dles said.
"On that pitch come the derby, the temperature rises."
City will regain Andreas Kuen, Kai Trewin and Samuel Souprayen from injury while Steven Ugarkovic (hamstring) is sidelined.
