Landing in Perth directly from Thailand after going to extra time in a steamy ACL2 win over Bangkok United midweek, Sydney were able to bring several managed starters on as late substitutes and threatened to finish strong on Saturday.
The visitors moved above Western United, who play Adelaide on Sunday, into sixth position on the table with their point, while the Glory went five clear of bottom-placed Brisbane, albeit with three more games played.
"Backing up with a game after 120 minutes is always tough but the travel sort of adds to that," Sydney skipper Rhyan Grant told Paramount.
"I think the boys put in a pretty good shift."
Seeking to dictate tempo, the Sky Blues dominated possession but couldn't turn this monopoly into clear chances across the opening half, not registering a shot on the goal of Oliver Sail despite having more than 60 percent of possession.
The Glory, in contrast, used their limited time in attack to promising effect, putting in one of their better halves of the season as they manufactured several chances that forced Sydney keeper Harrison Devenish-Meares into action.
"That was probably the most comfortable I felt in the first half of the game since I've been in a Glory shirt," Sail told Paramount.
The West Australians' best chance came in the 33rd minute when Yuto Misao lofted a ball onto the head of Adam Taggart atop the six-yard box, only for Devenish-Meares to get down on the goalline and dig it out.
Seeking to press home their advantage, the Glory sought to display greater initiative early in the second half but, like Sydney in the first, found chances hard to come by with more of the ball.
Sydney finally fashioned a shot on target in the 68th minute through Patryk Klimala and it ushered in a promising late spell, with Joe Lolley, Douglas Costa, and Anas Ouahim all putting Sail under pressure.
"I think the players displayed good energy in the game, considering the 120 minutes they played early in the week," Sydney boss Ufuk Talay said.
"But we spoke with the players, they knew there was no excuses.
"The only thing that we lacked was a goal"
