Australia notched their first win of the year when van Egmond forced an own goal in the first of two international friendlies on home soil.
Their 1-0 victory at Allianz Stadium in Sydney follows a horror campaign in the US-based SheBelieves Cup, where the Matildas failed to win a single point.
It also gives the world No.16 outfit, still under interim coach Tom Sermanni, an ideal start to preparations for the 2026 Asian Cup to be hosted by Australia.
"It was a good turnaround for us, to really put in a solid performance tonight against a good South Korean side after the SheBelieves Cup," van Egmond said.
"It gives us a boost and we've all been saying, we've got the Asia Cup around the corner, so every game is important for us and against opposition that are obviously going to be there in a few months' time.
"To be able to test ourselves against them and see where we're at now, we've obviously got a bit of time to fix what we need to fix and keep on the upwards spiral."
After missed opportunities in the first half, Australia broke the deadlock when midfielder van Egmond sent a slicing cross towards goal.
The ball was headed by Lim Seon-Joo but it deflected into her own net past the outstretched arm of goalkeeper Kim Min-Jeong.
Caitlin Foord helped spark the goal to exact Asian Cup revenge when she won the ball back in Australia's half.
Friday's match was the first time the Matildas were pitted against South Korea since their upset quarter-final loss at the 2022 Asian Cup.
The Koreans had notched a 1-0 win via a late goal to condemn Australia to their worst finish at an Asian Cup.
"Obviously, 2022 was heartbreak for us in India, but, you know, it's still a preparation phase for us," van Egmond said.
"They're technical and we obviously know that against Asian opposition, they're very good on the ball, they're tactically, you know, very smart.
"It's full focus on us and just proud of the girls to come out and bounce back the way we did."
Van Egmond will return to her Newcastle home as the two sides go toe-to-toe again for the final friendly in this international window on Monday.
In preparation for her homecoming, A-Leagues club Newcastle Jets had announced signing van Egmond as an April Fools joke.
The 31-year-old had started her professional career at the Jets and had a four-game cameo in 2023 while on loan from National Women's Soccer League club San Diego Wave.
"It was when I first landed here and everyone kept saying, 'Welcome home' and I was like, 'Oh, that's nice' but I didn't actually see what had happened," van Egmond joked.
