On Thursday during the day, the 34-year-old was not sure if he would play after a dizzy spell.
But he sought treatment and hours later had one of the best games of his 295-match career to put the ladder-leading Bulldogs to the sword at Suncorp Stadium.
He injured his right shoulder while scoring a first-half try and stayed down briefly before soldiering on until the 75th minute when he had to come off with a second knock after setting up three tries,
He was also battling on another front.
"The staph infection is on my leg. I woke up this morning feeling terrible," Reynolds said in the sheds post-match.
"I got across to the doctors pretty early and got some antibiotics into me and tried to have a sleep but that was no good. I was sweating on and off all day. It's not ideal but I have been under worse circumstances and played.
"There was a period during the day when I was umming and aahing about playing. I got in the shower and I was a bit light headed. It hit me hard. I was cold sweats all day. Any time I got hot I would start sweating and then I'd try and cool down and be freezing.
"The docs looked after me and got me some nausea tablets. I didn't eat or drink all day. I got some fluids down when I got to the ground and got on with it."
Reynolds teammate Jordan Riki missed the match with a similar ailment after he played through it in the 20-18 away loss to the Warriors last week.
"Jordan spent two or three days in hospital and only just got back to Brisbane so it can be bad. Lucky I got it early and I am on top of it with the doctors," Reynolds said.
"I was a bit tired today but I had a lot of good help around me which made my job a lot easier. It's those moments when you want to push through and do your best for the team."
The shoulder injury is now the bigger concern for the Broncos ahead of next Sunday's Magic Round clash with Penrith. Scans will likely follow.
"I felt something at the back but it went away after a couple of minutes. The second time it was pretty bad," Reynolds said.
"I'll check it out with the doctors and go from there. It went numb and burned and there were tingles down the arms so it is not ideal."
Reynolds is playing some of his best football and intends to play on in 2026 at this stage.
"There's a lot of people who have said I should retire. I suppose it is who you ask," he grinned.
"I'm enjoying myself and when you are enjoying yourself you surround yourself with good people. You tend to be in a happy place and when you are happy you play good footy.
"I'm loving my time at the moment. I'm just going to keep doing my job and see what comes of it.
"I understand where I am at in my career. That contract will look after itself in the future."
