Penrith have also had a boost, with returning halfback Nathan Cleary named in the reserves for his side's Dolphins clash as the Panthers prepare to amp up their premiership defence.
Smith has been listed in the interchange for Saturday's game against his former club Melbourne, after making a successful return to action in the NSW Cup last Sunday following a thumb fracture sustained eight weeks ago.
Five-eighth Luke Keary says Smith has been focused on his conditioning while sidelined.
"He's been working really hard, he looks in really good condition. We're looking forward to getting him back," Keary said.
"He just wanted to trim down a bit. At Melbourne he was playing lock and hooker so he had to have a bigger frame, whereas here he's our nine.
"He's worked really hard on his fitness levels the last couple of months ... you can see he's shed the kilos, eating really well, training really hard.
"He'd be wanting to play a few more minutes for us, especially towards the back end of the season."
Jake Turpin and Egan Butcher also return for the Roosters, as does star back Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, who missed round 19 due to a head-knock in training.
Young halfback Sam Walker is at least another week away following the knee injury that thwarted his bid to return from a spell in reserve grade.
Penrith have named Cleary in the reserves, rating him an outside chance to return from the hamstring injury he suffered in early June that ruined his chances of playing the final two State of Origin matches.
In Tigerland, Wests have a welcome boost with club captain Api Koroisau named at hooker for their clash with the Knights after suffering a broken jaw in round 15.
Koroisau still needs to be cleared by a surgeon to play on Friday, with Jake Simpkin standing by should the skipper not be given the green light.
Alex Twal returns from a one-week suspension for a hip-drop tackle against North Queensland in round 18.
Brisbane forward Pat Carrigan has been listed among the reserves for the Broncos' visit to Canterbury on Saturday, which falls three days after State of Origin III.
The Cowboys will field an unchanged lineup from the side that thumped Wests 74-0 in round 18 for their away clash with Manly on Saturday.
All seven of their Origin players are named to back-up, while the Sea Eagles have listed representatives Daly Cherry-Evans and Jake Trbojevic.
Parramatta's three NSW Origin players and Gold Coast's four Maroons have been listed for the meeting of the Eels and the Titans at CommBank Stadium on Sunday.
