For after the 34-year-old Perry crashed her highest ever WPL score at Bengaluru with a masterful knock of 81, she ended up getting upstaged by 16-year-old Indian Gunalan Kamalini, who cracked the winning boundary through the covers for the visiting Mumbai Indians off the penultimate ball.
As the young left-hander danced down the pitch, having sealed a famous four-wicket win on Friday, Indian cricket was enraptured by the story of the "cheeky little thing" who's the youngest ever player in the WPL, and only a few weeks ago starred in the national U19 team's World Cup victory.
On Tuesday, Kamalini had made history by starting for Mumbai against Gujarat at the age of 16 years 213 days, making her the league's youngest debutant.
And cheered on by her family in the stands at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, she looked like a hardened veteran as she coolly steered away the winning runs off Ekta Bisht through the off-side ring.
Finishing with 11 off eight balls, Kamalini's 26-run seventh-wicket stand with Amanjot Kaur got Mumbai past their target on 6-170, leaving the three Australians who had done so much to win the game for RCB all a bit flat.
Young Kamalini's joy was infectious. "What a superstar she is going to be!" declared Mumbai Indians coach Charlotte Edwards. "She is a cheeky little thing but what a job she did tonight!"
Perry, lauded by the home fans, had earlier again been RCB's star turn as she did most to drag them out of a hole when they had slumped to 4-57 after being asked to bat.
Smashing her second fifty of the tournament, she remained the rock as wickets tumbled around her and hit 11 fours and two sixes in her 43-ball innings before she departed off the penultimate ball, having set up RCB's total of 7-167.
Her 81 pushed her second on the all-time list of WPL run-scorers with a tally of 745, now just 32 shy of her long-time national captain Meg Lanning's 777 for Delhi Capitals.
Perry has still not yet recovered sufficiently from the hip problem that flared up during the Ashes Test to be able to bowl, and RCB certainly missed her in that department when it came to a close finish after Nat Sciver-Brunt (42 off 21) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (50 off 38) had put Mumbai in sight of victory.
Perry's two Aussie teammates, Georgia Wareham (3-21 off four) and Kim Garth (2-30 off four) looked as if they had won the day for RCB with key wickets, especially when Wareham's excellent, wily spin in the 18th over accounted for Harmanpreet and Sajeevan Sajana in successive balls.
But player-of-the-match Amanjot Kaur, who had earlier taken 3-22 off her four overs including the wicket of Perry, came up trumps with the bat too, thumping two sixes in her 27-ball 34no that sealed the deal, along with a little help from young sensation Kamalini.
