Already a dramatic start to the 1986 series, the Chennai (formerly Madras) match was instantly etched into cricket folklore when umpire V. Vikramraju gave Indian tailender Maninder Singh out lbw to ensure only the second tied Test in history. Earlier, Dean Jones was rushed to hospital after making 210 in extreme heat and humidity, one of the most famous and retold stories in Australian cricket.
* Kolkata, 2001
One of the greatest Tests of all-time. Australia had one hand on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy when Steve Waugh enforced the follow-on with a first-innings lead of 274. But VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid combined for an extraordinary 376-run partnership, grinding the powerful Australian team into the ground. Chasing 384, Australia stood no chance on a fifth-day wicket as Harbhajan Singh starred in India's improbable victory.
* Nagpur, 2004
After the pain of 2001, Australia meant business on their tour of India three years later. Up 1-0 going into the third Test, Australia controlled the match from the start. Damien Martyn hit a glorious 114 and Jason Gillespie tore through India's star batting line-up with nine wickets in the match. Not even the likes of Laxman, Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar had it in them to chase down the target of 543 as Australia claimed their first Test series in India for 35 years.
* Bangalore, 2017
Australia claimed a surprise victory in the opening Test in Pune and were well on their way to taking a 2-0 lead after grabbing an 87-run first-innings lead. However, the visitors collapsed chasing 188 as India levelled the series. Tensions between the rival nations reignited as India captain Virat Kohli accused Steve Smith of taking help from the dressing room in using the DRS, which is against the rules.
