Dashes of colour at Spring Quilt and Art Display

Lifestyle Shepparton held a Spring Quilt and Art Display on Sunday, October 9, with 70 attendees enjoying the proceedings.

Organiser Pam Watts said it was an event that came about through the pandemic period, as a way to connect seniors with the community, and in turn the community with the village.

"We pulled this idea together as a way to reconnect with each other but also to invite the wider community to have an opportunity to see the village and the senior villagers and their quilts," Mrs Watts said.

The event boasted a range of quilts handcrafted by the seniors, with some also selling handmade artwork.

"It was a great day, and the venue was great, as we were able to allow for the quilts to blow in the wind to show the full colour in the glorious sunshine," Mrs Watts said.

The quilts' designs were based on a range of commercial influences, but also seniors’ own layouts.

"A lot of our participants use their creativity but also through a range of commercial designs ... using all types of thread," Mrs Watts said.

She said the Spring Quilt and Art Display would be an ongoing event, with hopes of local businesses becoming involved in the day.

"We really want the event next year maybe a little later due to October being a busier time of year and wanting to have food and coffee vans set up, as well as a chance to get the whole of the community," she said.
