Smiles were shared on the green as lawn bowl enthusiasts rallied to support a great cause.

A charity day was held at Tatura Bowls Club on Wednesday, February 5 by the Goulburn Valley Over-60 Bowls Association to show support for patients in hospice care.

Known for sponsoring local communities and businesses, the association decided to honour its former president Ian Vick by supporting the Goulburn Valley Hospice Care Service.

“He passed away through cancer, and GV hospice supports people with those sort of life-limiting illnesses,” association secretary Warren Snow said.

“So we thought it was a no-brainer that we support someone who probably supported Ian.”

All funds gathered from entry fees, raffles and generous donations went directly towards supporting the vital work of GV Hospice.

Its biggest supporter, Lifestyle Communities, was able to provide four ‘traditional teams’ for the big event.

The annual season, running from October to March, features weekly competitions that aim to encourage involvement among bowlers aged over 60.

“It’s a really good health or mental outlet for men to get together and enjoy each other’s company,” Mr Snow said.

“(We’re) more than just a bowls club.”
