Owners Joel Raglus and Leon McAsey were very grateful for the accolades after being called to the stage for a second time.
“They’re both really significant,” Mr McAsey said.
“They both relate to what we’ve been trying to achieve.”
The pair ran JR’s Coffee Please coffee van for many years before entering the permanent space at Gargarro Botanic Gardens.
During the application process, they had the chance to reflect on their years working in the industry and on the journey of their cafe.
“It allowed us to look back at what we have achieved,” Mr McAsey said.
“We’ve done a lot, which is good.”
Their first task post-awards is to find a space in the cafe to show off their new silverware.
“We will have to have a trophy cabinet now,” Mr McAsey said.
Mr McAsey paid tribute to the contributions of their staff to the now award-winning space.
“The team is sensational,” he said.
“Even before we came tonight, I said, ‘look, if we don’t win, we’ve created something special’.
“It all belongs to them because there is no business without them.”
