Crowds are set to be once again allowed at regional Victorian sporting venues from Friday, just in time for the scheduled restart of the Goulburn Valley and Kyabram District leagues.
Coupled with the ability for metropolitan Melbourne residents to travel freely throughout the state it means it should be all systems go for adult community sport to resume in the region this weekend.
At the time of writing a number of wrinkles still needed to be ironed out by governing bodies.
This included NSW Government advice on allowing metropolitan Melbourne residents to cross the border — relevant specifically to leagues like Murray and Picola District — organisations like AFL Victoria updating the advice from its most recent announcement and district leagues rubber-stamping the final go-ahead for the upcoming weekend of action.
But the main hurdle to mass resumption of play — Victorian Government restrictions — has been cleared.
At the daily press conference update on Wednesday Victorian acting premier James Merlino confirmed the easing of regional restrictions to allow more than just those necessary for the completion of matches to attend.
In a follow-up post to social media that advice was quantified.
From 11.59pm on Thursday, June 17, physical recreation and sport can proceed with a maximum venue capacity of 300 people per indoor space and 1000 in outdoor areas.
This is as long as a density quotient of one person per 4 sq m can be adhered to, and no more than 50 people congregate in a group in an indoor facility.
The advice still recommends that the minimum number of people required to participate in and facilitate the activity take part in community sport, but does state that spectators are allowed within the venue capacity limits.
