ASHEfest, a three-day event hosted by the University of Melbourne’s Academy of Sport, Health and Education, encourages school students to participate in indigenous games.
ASHE training coordinator Phil Guthrie said the annual event was an open invitation to all schools within the region.
“It’s important to bring students together and learn about Aboriginal culture,” he said.
Mr Guthrie said students would rotate through activities including traditional games, tennis, face painting and storytelling.
“The traditional games are always a favourite where participants work on indigenous practices such as fishing and hunting in the form of games and play,” he said.
Mr Guthrie said more than a thousand students would participate over the three days.
“We have foundation to grade 3 students here today, then grade 4 to 6 tomorrow, and then the high schools on Friday,” he said.
