A woman’s car was allegedly rammed, pushing it off the road, while a second vehicle was also allegedly rammed when the driver stopped to help, in a frightening incident at Murchison North on Thursday, January 12.
Shepparton police Sergeant Darren Wagstaff said a NSW man rammed his ex-partner’s car as she drove on River Rd about 9.20pm.
The ramming caused the woman’s vehicle to run off the road and into the scrub, Sgt Wagstaff said.
The woman got out of the car after the crash, and police allege the man then assaulted her.
When a passing motorist stopped to help, his car was also allegedly rammed by the man, Sgt Wagstaff said.
The occupants of that vehicle — two men and a woman — restrained the man until police arrived.
The 31-year-old NSW man was taken to GV Health by ambulance with a head injury from the collision.
On Friday morning he remained in hospital under police guard.
He has not been interviewed about the incident yet.
The man’s former partner and the two men from the other car were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Sgt Wagstaff praised the actions of the people who stopped to help.
“The actions of the passers-by for stopping and rendering assistance were incredible,” he said.
“They are to be commended for their bravery.”
