Almost $30,000 was distributed for the 2022/23 program, with half going straight to the company’s Learn to Swim programs across Murray.
Murray Irrigation has helped thousands of young people improve their water safety for almost 20 years with its ongoing financial contributions to this program.
Finley Little Atheltics was awarded $5,000 for a new long jump run-up, to replace the current damaged run-up.
Other grant recipeints were as follows:
- Deniliquin Kolety Lagoons Landcare Group - $4,900 for restoration, installation of seating, table, and gravel for paths at Blake Park Reserve to improve accessibility to the community.
- Western Murray Land Improvement Group - $4,950 for purchase of two defibrillators (one portable) and signage.
The successful projects were selected from 14 applicants, with each fulfilling the criteria requirements of supporting healthy, viable and vibrant local communities.
Murray Irrigation CEO Ron McCalman thanked all organisations who applied for funding and said the company was delighted to again support Learn to Swim and assist other worthy projects.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to provide funding for every applicant, but I would encourage those who have not been successful this year to watch for our sponsorship program advertising in early 2023 and, if their project remains suitable, to submit another application,” Mr McCalman said.
The program is made possible by contributions from Murray Irrigation’s shareholders, customers and the irrigators who grow the food and fibre on which our nation and the world relies.
Mr McCalman said he would like to recognise these local irrigators, because without their contributions the sponsorship would not be possible.
“Supporting communities across our footprint continues to be an important part of the social responsibility for Murray Irrigation.
“We look forward to our sponsorship being continued in the future, and helping bring other worthwhile projects to fruition,” he said.
