A club spokesperson said the group of locals, from all walks of life, was keen to promote awareness of its aims and activities.
“Bushwalking has many benefits, both mental and physical, for all age groups and fitness levels,” the spokesperson said.
“The club promotes the safe enjoyment of our natural outdoor environment within a social setting.
“(We are) a very active club, with many of members possessing an extensive knowledge of Bushcraft and Bushwalks in the north-east, including the Alpine region.
“Therefore we offer a wide range of walks and other activities to cater for all levels of ability and fitness.”
Those include:
- Mid-week walks;
- Weekend and overnight walks;
- Cycling;
- Canoeing;
- Snowshoeing; and
- Orienteering.
The club also arranges kids overnight hikes for younger family members.
“In addition our club also organises the occasional social function, which everyone enjoys,” the spokesperson said.
“For newcomers to Benalla, joining the club is a great way to meet like-minded people.
“Club activities this year have included Murchison and Milawa bike rides; Lake William Hovell canoeing; a Mt Bogong overnight hike; walks alongside the Murray River to the Bluff, Whites Rock; and even a Winton Wetlands evening stroll.”
Club meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month and includes a guest speaker. Visitors are welcome.
Non-members looking to take part in an outing pay a fee of $5 and need to fill out an acknowledgement of risks form beforehand.
