One of Shepparton's iconic cows has been vandalised in Monash Park, with the damage costing about $1000 to repair.
The cow, depicting the protagonist from the children's book Good Golly! Where's Molly? was moved to the park three weeks ago for the book's launch.
Author Geoff Allemand described the vandalism as a "senseless act" as "she has to go to the cow hospital".
“It is very disappointing to see it happen . . . Molly has a profile and children are trying to find her around town,” Mr Allemand said.
“Now she has to go away for a while to be repaired.”
Mr Allemand reported the damage to Greater Shepparton City Council.
The council's economic development manager Anthony Nicolaci said the cow was scheduled for collection yesterday.
“It is expected that, once repaired, the cow will return to the herd at the park within the next couple of weeks,” Mr Nicolaci said.
Good Golly! Where's Molly is a story about two Moooving Art cows who get bored of standing still all day and decide to visit fun locations around Shepparton.
