But Southern 80 honours weren’t reserved for Tim in the Pickford household, with son Jedd also leaving the event with his own slice of history.
The younger Pickford will go down in history as the first Southern 80 skier to fly under the new Echuca-Moama Dhungala Bridge.
Towed by his father in Sapphire alongside observer Brian Griffin, the crew was on the first boat away from Five Mile Reserve on Saturday morning in the under-10 class.
And in a time of 11 minutes 25 seconds, the young skier and his supportive crew saluted with a win in the category to make it two wins for the Pickford family at the Southern 80.
It marked a successful debut outing at the Southern 80 for Jedd, who has only recently picked up the skis.
“Jedd’s only just started skiing so it was his first Southern 80 and first Tadpoles,” Tim said.
“It was good for him to have a win in his first race. He’s done Robinvale and Mildura so he’s had a bit of experience on race day.”
Accepting his medal at presentations on Saturday evening, Jedd thanked his crew for a stellar race.
The new bridge has been a project decades in the making for the twin towns, and was officially opened in April.
