Karramomus entertains Katandra and, with the Eagles suffering an uncharacteristically shaky start to their campaign, it leaves co-captain Ben Clurey no option but to demand his side lifts its standards.
“We’re hoping to put on a good show and kick off the season with a win on Saturday,” Clurey said.
“The first couple of games have been pretty disappointing for us but last week was a bit of a better showing with the bat.”
Round one produced a remarkable upset with Katandra undone by underdog Euroa, whereas last weekend Clurey noted his men showed better prowess with the willow against powerhouse Numurkah.
Clurey himself made 19, while brute Jedd Wright stumped up 38.
The former wants to see a further improvement in both the shot selection and runs-generated categories when taking to the park against Karramomus.
“The Euroa game was a bit of a situation — on and off again with the rain — so we couldn’t really take much away from it,” Clurey said.
“Numurkah had a couple of handy batters at the top of the order, and having our two opening bowlers out didn’t help.
“We showed a bit more intent with the bat though, so we’ll look to build on that and hopefully see out our overs this weekend.”
As for the Bloods, Mitch McGrath’s charges fought admirably when Nagambie rolled into town following a loss to Tatura at the season’s beginning.
After Lachie Keady took five-for against the Lakers, Karramomus was cruising but fell apart spectacularly in the end to see its record reach 0-2.
Like Katandra, the Bloods must find another gear — and Clurey is expecting his opposition to be reaching for the shifter come Saturday.
“Every club is in it to win so we’re expecting them to come out keen as mustard,” Clurey said.
“For us it will be about sticking to a plan and executing it.”
