In the league one men’s competition, Tatura bounced back from a 3-2 loss to Shepparton South, downing Shepparton United 1-0 at McEwen Reserve.
The Ibises found the back of the net through Thomas Leech in the second half, with the game in the balance throughout.
An injury for Cody Sellwood put a dampener on the win, however Tatura coach Tristan Zito said it was good to get a result.
“I was really happy with the boys, everyone put in a really good effort,” Zito said.
“It was obviously a bit tough with Cody going down (in the) 30th minute or so, he’s our captain so to get the win without him there showed a lot of character.”
Zito said it was not an easy game for the Ibises, with United’s height sure to take some points off other teams this season.
“They were definitely tough so I was wrapped to get the three points against them.”
Zac Ferlauto had “probably his best game since he’s come to the club”, while Leech once again stood out.
Shepparton South had a massive win on Sunday, running out 12-0 victors against Golden City in North Bendigo.
South put on a dominant performance, with Will Keenan scoring four, Sean Grant and Jamie De Smit scoring a brace each and Brent Barassi, Shaun Kane, Nicholas Mori and Glenn Murison all scoring singles.
The weekend’s results leave South three points clear on top of the ladder, while Tatura sits in second and Shepparton United fall to third.
In the league one women’s competition, Shepparton United put on an absolute masterclass as it defeated FC Eaglehawk 16-0 at McEwen Reserve.
United got the party started early through captain, Rezwana Baqiri, with Baqiri’s fifth-minute goal her first of seven for the match.
Baqiri was well complemented by a five-goal haul to Rebekah Lawson, while Raihanna Baqiri and Rana Jafari scored two each.
United coach Lucy Ciancio said it was a much-needed win.
“Rezwana Baqiri performed exceptionally well on Sunday, each goal she got she was hungry for more which is good,” Ciancio said.
“Everyone did really well on Sunday.
“This is only just the start of the season, throughout I can guarantee individually these girls will better themselves each game.”
The dominant win, that saw United leading 11-0 at half time, sees the side sit in fourth on the ladder, after an up and down start to the season with two wins and two losses.
In league two women’s action, Tatura won its second game in a row, defeating Kyneton District in Kyneton.
Goals to Jessica Posteraro and Ava Rosella got the Ibises over the line, with the side now on the top of the table after four games.
