Benalla Lion David Lowing said they were only out from 10am to 2pm and managed to sell more than 150 sausages.
“And we had lots of generous donations from people who didn’t want a snag,” Mr Lowing said.
“In total we raised $830 for the Australian Lions Foundation’s disaster relief fund.”
That fund is managed by the Lions Club of Australia and is activated for a number of natural disasters.
For instance in 2020 it was donating funds raised to the bushfire relief effort.
“Right now that money is going to help people affected by the recent floods,” Mr Lowing said.
“Those floods have not even stopped yet, with more flood warnings issued since we set up the fundraiser.”
Mr Lowing said he wanted to thank the Bendigo Bank and Bertallis Bakery for supplying the food and drink the Lions club sold.
“Without their help this would not have been possible,” he said.
“And thank you to everyone who bought a sausage, or donated on the day.
“Whether it was a large donation or a small donation, it all adds up and we are very grateful.”
Mr Lowing said the Lions’ next fundraiser was the gunfire breakfast on Anzac Day.
“With that one all the money we raise will go to the Benalla RSL,” he said.
“So we urge people coming to the dawn service to come and support the local RSL by having breakfast.
“We’ll have egg and bacon rolls, tea and coffee, and cold drinks.”
The Anzac Day dawn service will be held by the cenotaph from 6am on Monday, April 25.
