To reward her hard work, and ensure she is able to continue to compete at an elite level, the Benalla Young Sports Person’s Trust recently awarded her a grant of $1500.
That grant was, in part, made possible thanks to a generous donation from Benalla’s GMCU which recently donated $500 to BYSPT.
This season was a major leap forward for Jess as it was her first year competing in the under 20 age group.
Despite the big move, and some tough competition, Jess won medals in all her events at both the Victorian Country Championships and the Victorian State Championships.
She took home five medals in total — three gold and two silver.
She told The Ensign the highlight for her was winning medals at the State Championships.
Those being a Gold medal in the 200m — which made her the Under-20 200m State Champion, and a Silver medal in the 100m.
Despite a big effort leading up to and on the day at the Australian Championships Jess missed out on the finals in both her events.
While being disappointed with the result Jess took a positive spin on the outcome noting that next year, she will still be in under-20s and will be able to come back stronger and give the medals a shake.
BYSPTs Karen Edwards said the trust is always eager to help young people in the region pursue their sporting dreams.
“We encourage all young sports people who are competing at regional, state or national level to contact us and find out if we can provide some financial support,” Ms Edwards said.
