Well, what a start to the 2022 season as the Corowa Rutherglen Roos took on the Wodonga Raiders in some under 12s footy action.
The Roo boys settled early and were dominant on the ball and the scoreboard. Josh Hunter and Josh Parker were applying pressure in the middle to keep the ball in the Roos forward half which enabled the Roos to kick 4 goals in the first quarter.
The Roos started the second quarter the way they had the first quarter with strong pressure around the ball and solid tackling. The midfield work again enabled the forward line to dominate kicking another 4 goals in the quarter with Cooper Patten slotting 2 goals in the quarter.
The Raider boys were giving it their all but couldn’t contain a Roos midfield and forward line that was on fire.
After the long break the boys came out again with the Raiders getting more of the footy but failing to capitalize on the scoreboard. There were some great passages of play in this quarter with Will Forrest dominant in the midfield.
Will’s work enabled Levi Arnold to grab the ball across half forward and deliver some great ball into the forward line with Abe Spencer capitalizing on this hard work to kick a goal.
With the Raiders getting more of the ball our defense was put under some pressure but were able to rebuff the Raiders on all occasions to continue to hold them scoreless.
The Roo boys continued their hard work in the final quarter managing to increase their lead to finish with a 12 goal 14 behind to 1 behind win.
The Under 12 Roos are at home next week against Wodonga as they look for their next win.

Under 14s
After a good hit out last week at Yarrawonga, the real fun started on Sunday at Raiders with a bang.
A very physical and tall Raiders side provided the young Roos with a tough physical battle.
The first half saw an arm wrestle as Jayden Forge, Benji Hanrahan and Tex Longmire tried to hold back the tide.
Hunter Hall was also in everything, and Joe Lavis was providing a target at full forward.
Half time saw the scores 4 goals to 3. Jarvis Moloney was prominent and provided a cool head in the high paced battle through the whole game.
The size difference eventually saw the Roos overrun in the second half going down 10 goals to 5.
