Mayor Libro Mustica said fully scoped project proposals should be submitted as part of the community budget proposal process.
“We are calling for submissions prior to the traditional budget submission period to ensure community members with great ideas for our area can be heard,” he said.
Projects that could be considered include minor and major infrastructure works, community projects or events and sustainability projects.
The traditional budget submission period will still go ahead in April and May next year, but will instead primarily be a feedback opportunity on already-submitted community budget proposals.
Cr Mustica said the next year’s budget would be prepared in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated economic, social and health issues.
“Especially during times of crisis, council provides a solid framework from which our communities will not only survive, but be able to rebuild quickly and efficiently,” he said.
“We aim to balance the many and often competing needs of the Moira community and the challenges of a relatively small population dispersed across a large geographic area.
“I encourage community groups and individuals to come and submit their proposals – we can’t wait to hear your ideas.”
All Community Budget Proposals must be submitted using the Moira Shire SmartyGrants online form, available on the council’s website.
Submissions are open until 5pm on Friday, February 25, 2022.
