Murchison Community Action Group chair Warwick Gregory said Respect Aged Care was willing to take it over and was close to being approved.
The 40-bed facility was placed into administration earlier this month because of its deteriorating financial situation before it was announced a short time later that it would close.
Respect Aged Care chief executive Jason Binder yesterday said he was interested in taking over DP Jones Nursing Home, provided the Federal Government provided "some financial assistance".
Mr Binder said he was confident Respect Aged Care had what was needed to fix the situation.
“We’ve turned around numerous aged care homes in the past 10 years, both as an operator or in a consulting role,” he said.
“This is our bread and butter, and we know in the right hands that DP Jones has the capacity to remain a long-term asset delivering quality care for residents in the Murchison community.”
Federal Member for Nicholls Damian Drum said there had been overwhelming response from the broader community.
“It is the best possible outcome for the residents, staff, and wider community that we now have a potential provider ready to step up to the plate,” Mr Drum said.
“We now need the administrators to stop actively encouraging residents to leave as Respect Aged Care works through this process ... we will continue to provide support in any way that we are able to.”
Mr Gregory said Mr Drum's support was encouraging.
“We are so pleased that local member Mr Drum has stepped forward to fight for us and to lead the negotiations with the Federal Government,” he said.
“Due to the concern about a closure some residents have already been moved to other facilities. With this positive news many who were planning to move will stay and some who have left will come back.”
But Mr Gregory said there was still work to do.
“With this positive news regarding DP Jones Nursing Home, the community is now hopeful that solutions regarding the medical centre and neighbourhood house will come next,” he said.
“We will not stop our efforts as we continue to work with administrators, City of Greater Shepparton Council, Wendy Lovell, Steph Ryan and Damian Drum to ensure a long-term positive outcome for our community.”
Respect Aged Care is one of Tasmania's oldest aged care providers.
It also has four facilities in Victoria including Swan Hill, St Arnaud, Cohuna and Wangaratta.
