Bradley Donald Towle, 41, is under police guard in a Queensland hospital after being charged with a string of offences following the tense arrest captured by police body cameras.
Towle has been accused of causing a six-vehicle crash on a major highway that killed a 22-year-old woman, shooting a good Samaritan and stealing two cars at gunpoint.
In footage released by police on Tuesday, two officers with guns drawn can be seen approaching a vehicle on a busy Sunshine Coast intersection and screaming at a "bleeding" man to get out.
"Down, get down out of the car now. Get down, hands behind your back," an officer yells.
The man exits the car and lies on the road before officers handcuff him.
"We've got one in custody, hands behind his back, bleeding," the officer says.
The man is taken away by police with blood splattered on his shirt.
An officer then locates a firearm in the vehicle before opening the chamber to reveal a bullet.
"We've got one in the chamber. It's loaded and cocked," an officer says of the weapon.
Towle was allegedly driving a red Porsche Macan police claimed caused the multi-vehicle crash on the Bruce Highway, north of Brisbane, on Monday.
"The driver of the Porsche Macan allegedly lost control of the vehicle and struck the passenger side of a Nissan Micra," police said in a statement.
A passenger in the Nissan - a 22-year-old woman from Upper Mount Gravatt - later died from injuries from the crash at Palmview, on the Sunshine Coast.
The Nissan's driver - a 22-year-old Strathpine man - was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Towle allegedly got out of the Porsche armed with a gun and shot the driver of a SsangYong Rexton who stopped to offer assistance.
He is accused of shooting the 62-year-old man in the arm after an altercation, then stealing the Rexton.
The good Samaritan was taken to hospital while his car was found crashed at nearby Landsborough about 20 minutes later.
Towle then allegedly stole a grey Mazda 3, driven by a 16-year-old girl, at gunpoint.
The teenager and her parents ran from the vehicle and were not injured.
Towle was arrested about 12.50pm on Monday at a Landsborough intersection on the Sunshine Coast, about 30 minutes after the fatal crash.
Towle sustained head and body injuries in the traffic incidents and was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remained under police guard on Tuesday.
The Tewantin man has been charged with 15 offences including armed robbery, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.
"Investigations are continuing with further charges likely," police said, urging anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.
Towle's case was mentioned briefly in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
The matter was adjourned until Wednesday, with Towle set to be moved from the hospital to a police watchhouse.
