Rural Fire Service members are volunteers.
Service to the community is the only reward for the time they put into the callouts and training.
They are working people who also need to make a living at their work, and this is a busy time of year for everyone.
Each response to a call out is voluntary whether it be a’ yes’ or ‘no, thumbs up or thumbs down.
As a 50 year plus member of a rural brigade, I am very aware of the conflicting priority that members face - work, RFS and family.
The RFS, Mid Murray Zone, provide good equipment and support to deal with the type of fires or emergencies volunteers are trained for.
Most RFS volunteers are not trained for structure fires in towns.
Crew member numbers vary a lot, but they all do their best and act as a team.
As to the Volunteer Rural Fire Fighter’s Association, they are not an organisation I have heard of in the Mid Murray Zone before.
Yours etc.
