This improves the Eagles to 2-0 in 2025 and rocketed them up the standings into fourth position.
However, Echuca United once again did it the hard way, overcoming losing deficits in the first two quarters to roar home late.
The Blues looked strong from the outset, kicking 3.4 to get their day under way, but the Eagles kept with them, kicking 2.5 to trail by five at quarter-time.
Echuca United kept a similar pace in the second period, kicking a further 2.3 to maintain a steady output, while putting the clamps on Numurkah, which slowed to just 2.1 at half-time, the lead evaporating to three points.
While both sides stepped up in the third term, it was the Eagles who flew highest, who after conceding the first maximum after half-time, kicked four unanswered goals to take the lead.
The Blues jagged one back on the verge of three-quarter time to bring the two sides within a goal of each other but with Echuca United now in the lead.
Numurkah struck first blood inside the first 10 minutes to level the scores, but the Eagles answered right back with 14 points in a row.
The Blues’ final goal with five minutes remaining brought it back to an eight-point game, but a late goal with just a minute left by United meant its win was all but assured.
Escaping with a 14-point win against Numurkah 9.9 (63), the Eagles (11.11) now go into round three with an unblemished record.
Echuca United will have a true test in round three as it faces a Moama side that has had its number recently and will be keen to claw itself back to a winning record and claim the Three Jacks Trophy at home.
