Families from the Sri Lankan community in Echuca-Moama gathered on Saturday, April 5 to celebrate Sri Lankan New Year.

It was a vibrant day full of fun, tradition and togetherness, with a strong turnout of about 80 adults and 40 children participating in the festivities.
The event was a special opportunity for children to connect with their cultures.
Dr Dominic Karunanayaka, who led the organising committee, thanked everyone who contributed to making the day a success.
“It was great to see our community come together and share our traditions,” he said.
“The Sri Lankan New Year celebration was a great success and is expected to become a regular highlight in the town’s cultural calendar.”
Guests enjoyed the range of cultural food on offer.
Attendees enjoyed a range of cultural games, traditional music and delicious food.
It was also a special opportunity for the younger generation to connect with their heritage and experience the customs of their parents and grandparents.
A highlight of the day was the generous support from local businesses such as Byford, Border Inn Hotel, AWMA Water Control Solutions and Simonds Homes who sponsored the event.
Woolworths also provided food and businesses provided gifts for the children, making the celebration even more exciting for the little ones.
The Sri Lankan community marked the occasion with food and fun.
