There were a range of activities for kids to enjoy, along with historical and art displays and The HIVE Rochester market.
Attendees had the opportunity to mark the occasion with commemorative wine, tea towels and engraved pavers.
Past and current staff and students were among those who enjoyed the day, looking back on their part in the past 150 years.
“I’ve taught here six, seven years and it’s a delight to work here,” teacher Helen Tuohey said.
“It’s a pleasure to come every day.
“The kids are fabulous.”
Mrs Tuohey reflected on her experience as a teacher at Elmore Primary School, highlighting the community spirit at the school of just 26 students.
“The kids are genuine and the families are genuine, so I suppose that’s what makes it easy,” she said.
“I look after them and they look after me.
“It’s probably the easiest teaching job I’ve had in my life.”
With only a handful of friends on the playground each day, students are inclusive and caring.
This dynamic is welcomed by Mrs Tuohey.
“We’re in a small school, so the kids all play together,” she said.
“They’ve kind of got to. If you want to have a game of footy, then you’ve got to have the Preps playing and the grade ones playing.
“So they also look after each other ... makes life easy.”
